For as long as I can remember I've been interested in abandoned locations throughout the world. Places like Grossinger's Resort, Chernobyl, Pripyat, and the old Six Flags in New Orleans really pique my interest. Maybe it's from all the zombie movies I've watched, or maybe it's my psychology background, but I love to imagine what the world will be like if people just dissapear. Morbid? Nah. Try to imagine you wake up 10 years in the future and everyon...

Uncommon Sense is looking to Top Gear for inspiration, and rightly so! The BBC program is one of the greatest on television, with an estimated 350 million viewers worldwide. Hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammod review, test, and destroy cars on a weekly basis. And they do so with crispy fresh editing, to-the-point dialogue, and comedy that is unmatched in any other auto show. The great thing about Top Gear is that you don't have to be an automobile aficionado to appreciate the...

In the summer of 2011 I was accepted for an internship at the online news outlet GoLocalProv, located in Providence, RI. My first day on the job I was introduced to the fast paced world of online news media, where there's always a new project or breaking story. My work ranged from sports journalism to investigative reporting, and even to event coverages. Nearly all of the videos I was involved in were filmed, edited, and uploaded by myself, with input from several of the on staff editors. The...

It's a new year, and with that comes a fresh set of ideas for new videos and projects. For the short term, Uncommon Sense is working with various departments at the University of Rhode Island on different promotional pieces. The URI Honors Colloquium has selected Uncommon Sense and Jason Allard to assist with the production of an original documentary created by a group of six URI students. With their creativity and our passion for filmmaking the plan is being turned into a reality. The project focuses on perceptions of the future and what it holds for us as a society. The first stop for filming was Beantown, home of the freedom trail and the delicious foods of Faneuil Hall. The photos below can give you a small g...

Amidst the bounty of promotional and educational pieces for the University of Rhode Island we here at Uncommon Sense have been slowly plotting a new branch of our entertainment services. In high school our close group of friends produced videos and even a short film, but once we reached college we went our separate ways and the video production stopped almost entirely. It is this same group of friends that is once again joining together to make up the Uncommon Sketch Group. We have over 35 sh...

It's October and autumn is finally back! This short couple of weeks marks the best time for filming as all the leaves change colors and the bugs all go away. Unfortunately, it also means that soon we'll have to venture out into a leafless environment void of natural beauty. That is, until the snow comes. Uncommon Sense has gotten a few new projects to work on to carry us through the season, the first of which will be released in the next few days. I can't reveal too much, but I can say it'll ...

The abandoned city of Pripyat. Deserted in 1986 following the meltdown of core reactor no. 4 at Chernobyl Power Plant, the city has been retaken by nature. The citizens were forced to leave their homes and left all their possessions behind. With over 50,000 residents at the time, the absence of people made for the largest ghost town in the world. The city features full schools, gymnasiums, and apartment buildings. Beyond the city limits are some of the largest car graveyards in world, with ve...

It's the start of senior year here at the University of Rhode Island, and Uncommon Sense is planning on doing big things to contribute to the university. We've already got a few new videos in the works, with more personal ones coming soon. The biggest news is the addition of a new HD camera to our arsenal, making it even more fun to produce quality pieces. Just to give a quick equipment rundown, we have a Canon XL2 miniDV, GoPro Hero, GoPro HD Underwater, DGX mini HD, Sony Handycam 8mm, and (...
