We were granted FULL ACCESS to the abandoned Woonsocket Middle School! So far, we've spent two full 8 hours days inside filming, and it was FREEZING. Since we went in winter, and there's no heat or air circulation in the school, it was about 20 degrees colder than the outside temperature. That made for a day of filming with a temperature of about 10 degrees. I had to put hand warmers on some of the cameras to prevent the screens from locking up.
With that being said, I've never seen anything like this building. I went to school there, but as an abandoned structure it has a whole new life. Everything was dead quiet, dark, and covered in dust. I went in with a crew of four, and we could hear every footsep...even on different floors. I can't wait to release this film, although it might be a long time away.
We're in the process of scheduling interviews with former teachers, students, historians, and city officials to craft the narrative portion. As it is now, I'm focused on cinematography, crew lists, lighting, audio, and primary filming. My executive producer, Scott Gabrielson, is focusing on organizing the shoots, connecting with potential subjects, and handling the business side of things.
EDIT: We now have a Facebook page for the film:
